On World AIDS Day 2025, the International AIDS Society (IAS) and Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) announced that Geneva has been selected to host the 14th IAS Conference on HIV Science, taking place from 11 to 15 July 2027. This major global gathering — expected to welcome more than 5,000 participants — comes at a critical moment for the worldwide HIV response.

As international funding for HIV programmes declines, decades of progress are at risk. UNAIDS modelling warns that reduced investment could lead to millions of new HIV infections and deaths in the coming years. In this challenging context, Geneva is stepping forward to strengthen its leadership in global health and reaffirm its commitment to HIV prevention, care, and research.

Home to organisations such as IAS, WHO, UNAIDS, the Global Fund and UNITAD, as well as world-class clinical and research expertise within HUG and the University of Geneva, the city offers a unique ecosystem for global coordination. Local associations also play a key role in prevention and support for affected communities.

Building on this exceptional environment, Geneva is exploring the creation of a Global Centre for HIV Prevention, designed to unite key partners, enhance collaboration, and drive innovation in public health.

The 2027 conference will not only bring the international scientific community together — it will also reinforce Geneva’s ambition to serve as a central hub for the future of the HIV response.
