Swiss health data technology company and EPFL spinoff Tune Insight has announced a strategic partnership with French digital healthcare leader Softway Medical, marking an important step in the industrial deployment of privacy-preserving data collaboration across Europe.
At a time when more than 97% of hospital data remains unused, Tune Insight’s mission is clear: enable health data sharing while fully respecting fundamental human rights, data sovereignty, and regulatory compliance. Founded as an EPFL spin-off, the Swiss company has positioned itself at the forefront of secure, federated data analytics for healthcare and medical research.
Privacy-by-design technology for large-scale research
The joint Softway Medical–Tune Insight solution is built on a privacy-first architecture designed to allow large-scale distributed medical analysis without transferring data.
The system operates on three key principles:
- Zero data transfer: analyses are performed locally, where the data reside.
- Secure federated analysis: researchers access only aggregated, anonymized results.
- Advanced Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs): combining homomorphic encryption, secure multiparty computation, differential privacy, and disclosure control measures to ensure data protection throughout its lifecycle.
This approach enables hospitals, laboratories, imaging centers, and public health institutions to participate in multicenter research, real-world evidence generation, and AI model training—without data ever leaving their infrastructure.
Facilities retain full ownership, governance, and decision-making authority over their data, within a secure and traceable framework aligned with European regulatory standards and the upcoming European Health Data Space (EHDS).
Accelerating research while preserving sovereignty
Beyond compliance, the partnership aims to accelerate upstream phases of medical research. Pharmaceutical companies and CROs can assess clinical protocol feasibility more rapidly—particularly in oncology, rare diseases, and infectious diseases—reducing both decision-making and implementation timelines.
By combining Softway Medical’s scientific expertise with Tune Insight’s federated computing platform, the collaboration seeks to establish a scalable European infrastructure for predictive medicine and public health.
“This collaboration reflects our goal of building a European health data infrastructure—one that is industrial, sovereign and operational. With Tune Insight, we are building the foundations for large-scale medical research, without sacrificing ownership or ethics,” said Sherley Brothier, Softway Medical CPTO.
For Tune Insight, the partnership reinforces its role as a key European player in secure health data ecosystems.
“By partnering with Softway Medical, we are paving the way for a landmark European infrastructure for the secure exploitation of health data. This partnership brings scientific innovation, regulatory requirements, and sovereignty into perfect harmony, building on the large-scale deployments we have already carried out, for example in Swiss hospitals,” said Juan Ramón Troncoso-Pastoriza, CEO of Tune Insight.
With this collaboration, Tune Insight continues to expand its footprint across Europe, promoting a model where ethics, trust, and technological innovation advance together—transforming health data into secure, actionable real-world evidence to power next-generation medical research and personalized medicine.
