The CSEM spin-off is launching its advanced Active Aligners to provide a more effective and healthier approach to orthodontic care. The Medtech startup was financed with CHF 150,000 by Venture Kick, winning the third stage of the program.
Traditional clear aligners have transformed orthodontics, offering a discreet alternative to braces in a rapidly growing USD 6.3 Billion market. However, these aligners inadvertently create a breeding ground for bacteria by restricting saliva flow and oxygen to the teeth, leading to plaque buildup, cavities, and unpleasant odors. This oral health concern often undermines a convenient path to a perfect smile.
Actival’s solution is a patented 3D printing technology that integrates microchannels into the aligners, addressing the issue at its core. These channels allow saliva to circulate naturally while dispensing antibacterial fluid, fluoride, and customizable flavors. The result is precise tooth alignment and improved oral health, fresh breath, and enhanced enamel protection.
The aligner market is growing quickly, with an annual growth rate of 30%. Actival is well-positioned to become a leading aligner manufacturer by introducing innovative and differentiated products. The company’s main customers are dentists and dental clinics, who will provide their patients with advanced orthodontic solutions that offer additional value compared to traditional braces or aligners.
Actival will invest the CHF 150,000 funding from Venture Kick to extend its network of distributors and partner clinics as part of an extensive pre-launch campaign. This will include exhibiting its products at three trade show events and launching a customized digital marketing campaign.
The Actival team combines expertise in advanced 3D printing and dental technology from the Swiss Technology and Innovation Center (CSEM). Nikola Kalentics, co-founder and CEO drives the company’s strategic direction, while CTO Eleonore Poli oversees technology integration. Ghazal Adeli Koudehi as an R&D engineer focuses on research and development, while Yann Zosso and Jules Sachot–Durette contribute to product development. Together, they aim to launch the Active Aligners in Switzerland and the USA, with plans for further expansion.
“Our experience with Venture Kick has been highly impactful,” highlighted CEO Nikola Kalentics. “Its support has provided us with vital funding, guidance, and mentorship, significantly strengthening our market presence and credibility. The resources and network Venture Kick offers have been key to reaching our milestones and preparing for future growth. We deeply appreciate its partnership and look forward to continuing this journey together.”
