Actival, the Neuchâtel-Based medtech startup spun off from CSEM, has been awarded a CHF 1.4 million grant from Innosuisse to accelerate the development and market launch of its patented Active Splints — a new generation of patient-specific oral care devices developed in partnership with CSEM.
The CHF 1.4 Million Innosuisse grant will support Actival in combining Swiss deep-tech expertise, advanced 3D printing, and microfluidic technology to turn dental devices from passive appliances into smart, personalized care platforms capable of delivering targeted treatment directly at the tooth surface.
From Passive Aligners to Smart Oral Care Platforms
Actival’s core innovation is a patented 3D printing technology that integrates microchannels into dental aligners and splints. Traditional clear aligners, while a discreet alternative to braces in a rapidly growing USD 6.3 billion market, restrict saliva flow and oxygen around the teeth — creating conditions for plaque buildup, cavities, and bad odors that can undermine an otherwise convenient treatment.
Actival’s microchannels address this at the source, allowing saliva to circulate naturally while dispensing antibacterial fluid, fluoride, and customizable flavors. The result is a device that delivers precise tooth alignment alongside improved oral health, fresher breath, and stronger enamel protection.
Building on Momentum
The aligner market is growing at roughly 30% annually, and Actival is positioning itself to become a differentiated manufacturer within it. Its primary customers are dentists and dental clinics, who can offer patients an advanced orthodontic option with clear added value over conventional braces or aligners.
The Innosuisse grant follows an earlier CHF 150,000 award from Venture Kick, won after Actival successfully completed the third stage of the programùe. That funding has gone toward expanding the company’s network of distributors and partner clinics, including trade show appearances and a targeted digital marketing campaign ahead of launch.
Actival also won the Medtech & Healthcare Innovation prize at the 2026 >>venture>> Startup Competition!
Finally, Actival is currently a top-3 finalist in the TOP100 Swiss Startup public voting run by Venturelab — recognition the company credits to strong community support.
