The Fondation pour l’Innovation Technologique (FONGIT) awarded a CHF 50’000 FIF Grant to the Swiss Health Valley startup developing a non-invasive thought-to-speech wearable technology
Infera Neuro is an EPFL spin-off from the Integrated Neurotechnologies Laboratory (INL) at Campus Biotech in Geneva, developing application-specific integrated circuits, or ASICs, for brain-computer interfaces. These systems aim to restore communication for people who have lost the ability to speak, for example following a stroke or as a result of neurodegenerative disease.
Conventionally, neural signals are sent off the device before being interpreted, which introduces delay and consumes power. Infera Neuro performs the decoding directly on the chip instead, keeping raw neural data on the device and limiting how far sensitive information travels.
The FIF Grant will fund the incorporation of the company in Geneva and the next stage of development of its chip design.
