ISREC Foundation Awards CHF 3.4 Million to Seven Cancer Research Teams

Cancer research thrives at the intersection of the laboratory and the clinic — where fundamental discoveries meet the realities of patient care. The TANDEM grants, awarded by the ISREC Foundation, are built precisely for that intersection.

TANDEM projects are collaborative research programmes that bring together basic and clinical research in oncology. Scientists and physicians work side by side to translate findings from fundamental research into new cancer therapies or biomarkers — with the shared goal of turning knowledge into better outcomes for patients.

This year, the ISREC Foundation in Lausanne is awarding CHF 3.4 million to seven research teams across Switzerland, many of them located at CHUV and UNIL in the Swiss Health Valley, each pairing clinical and scientific expertise to explore promising new approaches to cancer:

• Acute myeloid leukemia Prof. Nina Cabezas-Wallscheid (ETHZ) & Prof. Petya Apostolova (USB)
• Radioimmunotherapy Dr. Irma Telarovic, Prof. Panagiotis Balermpas & Prof. Martin Pruschy (USZ/UZH)
• Liver cancer Prof. Ping-Chih Ho (UNIL) & Prof. Darius Moradpour (CHUV)
• Bladder cancer Prof. Daniel Ahmed (UNIBE) & Prof. Beat Roth (INSEL)
• Lung cancer Prof. Alessandra Curioni Fontecedro (HFR) & Prof. Jens Stein (UNIFR)
• Lung cancer and melanoma PD Dr. Grégory Verdeil (UNIL), Prof. Alfred Zippelius & Prof. Kirsten Mertz (USB)
