The Centre aims to enhance Switzerland’s role in global pathogen bioinformatics research, providing expertise and services to federal authorities and the international research community. This will support pandemic preparedness and real-time pathogen surveillance.
The Centre will contribute to the pathogen response and public health strategies at both national and international scale. It will operate as a multi-site initiative, led by Aitana Neves as Managing Director, with a Steering Board comprised of leading experts in computational biology and epidemiology. Additionally, an Advisory Board of national and international experts will guide the Centre’s strategy in alignment with global pandemic response roadmaps.
” As we enter endemic times, it is essential that Swiss infrastructures and tools that have proven to be strategic players during the COVID-19 pandemic are maintained and expanded, while also being rationalized and synergized where possible under a common mission,” says Aitana Neves.
“We envision that the Centre will become a trusted partner of the federal authorities for its current and future surveillance programmes,” says Christophe Dessimoz, Executive Director of SIB
The Centre’s mission is to unite SIB’s resources and tools to contribute to pathogen research and public health strategies at both national and international levels.
