The Swiss start-up wants to develop an AI-SaaS to democratize the use and interpretation of ultrasound

SightIn Health’s Machine Vision and Artificial Intelligence software enables anyone to expertly operate, interpret, and analyze point-of-care ultrasound – without the need for any prior training. The real-time AI guidance system helps operators find the correct anatomical scanning location and then enables auto-capture, auto- analysis, and consumer-grade visualization, insights, and reporting from the scan.

The software easily plugs into leading portable ultrasound hardware and allows for superior point-of-care scanning, in addition to single-pixel precision insights, resulting in consistent and repeatable procedures. SightIn will use the CHF 150,000 Venture Kick award to advance clinical and regulatory approvals, in addition to commercialization and partnerships.

The price of ultrasound hardware is now dramatically lower than in previous years, and medtech hardware manufacturers have successfully produced pocket-size ultrasound units that can be plugged directly into smartphones and used by general practitioners, nurses, and primary care physicians. The challenge is that ultrasound remains a highly operator-dependent procedure. Top sonographers can train for years, and they are in short supply worldwide. To fully democratize the power of these tools, it is critical to augment the necessary level of training that has historically been required for optimal usage and consistent interpretation.

SightIn Health uses advanced machine vision and artificial intelligence techniques like convolutional neural networks in a suite of intelligence algorithms for the recognition and definition of quality, position, region of interest, and single-pixel insights on ultrasound images. SightIn Health’s technology is based on extensive experience from top universities and has democratized both the procedure and interpretation to ensure that any medical professional, regardless of prior training, can successfully operate and interpret these machines and images.

“Venture Kick has been an important and indelibly positive piece of SightIn Health’s evolution and growth. The value-add contributions from the Venture Kick team have been numerous and include things like expanding our network, identifying, and proposing partnership opportunities, and out-of-the-box product and GTM ideas. We are absolutely thrilled to win stage three of Venture Kick and feel honored to be a part of this distinguished ecosystem,” said William King, CEO of SightIn Health.
