Bearmind swept the sport section at WIPO Global Awards on 10 July 2026. The Lausanne-based startup and EPFL spinoff is one of the eleven companies recognised worldwide. They were chosen out of 1’300 applications from 126 countries.
What if your helmet could tell you when it’s time to stop? In contact sports, most head impacts go unnoticed. Bearmind helps athletes and coaches manage brain injury risk. Their helmets measure every impact in real time and feed the data into cognitive tests. An online platform delivers live insights to team staff, enabling safer decisions. With an IP strategy covering both hardware and software Bearmind’s technology is expanding into contact sports worldwide.
The Awards Ceremony, held during the WIPO Assemblies on 10 July 2026, gathered delegates from WIPO’s 194 member states – a rare stage where an SME or startup can present its business needs directly to global policymakers. Director General Daren Tang awarded trophies to the 11 winners, alongside Special Mentions for the Best Woman Entrepreneur and the Best Youth Entrepreneur.
The winners are selected in an acceleration programme in which they will get:
- Strategic business support: 25 hours of tailored 1:1 mentoring, covering IP and business model, access to market, and access to capital.
- Access to WIPO’s Ecosystem Partners network of investors, accelerators, and service providers.
- International promotion across business and policy audiences
In 2023, Bearmind reached CHF 2 million funding and announced in September 2025 a strategic partnership with Canadian ice hockey manufacturer Bauer.
