Bertrand Levrat, CEO of the University Hospitals of Geneva, joins Mediclinic, a private group

Bertrand Levrat, Chief Executive Officer of Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), is to take on a new professional challenge as Group Chief Operating Officer of Mediclinic. He will continue to carry out his responsibilities at the HUG until 31 May 2024. A recruitment process will be launched for his succession.

Bertrand Levrat has been Chief Executive Officer of the HUG since 1 June 2013, ushering in a period of profound change within the institution. Under his leadership, Switzerland’s leading university hospital has been transformed through significant reforms aimed at strengthening excellence and innovation in the service of patients, research and teaching, the HUG wrote in a press release on Monday.

Over the past decade, Bertrand Levrat has overseen the implementation of “several remarkable initiatives”, including the reorganisation of the medical departments. In terms of infrastructure, he was responsible for the opening of the Gustave Julliard building, the new maternity unit, the Maison de l’enfance et de l’adolescence, the geriatric and adult emergency departments and the Innovation Centre.

The HUG is the largest university hospital in Switzerland, and one of the largest employers in the canton of Geneva. In 2022, 12,788 people in 160 professions were working at the HUG. The establishment also managed 62,302 inpatient cases and 1,193,275 outpatient cases.
