Addressing the challenges of precision and efficiency in brain surgery, the Wyss Center Spin-Off Clee Medical is developing technology that enhances neurosurgical procedures through advanced imaging and AI-driven guidance. The startup was financed with CHF 150,000 by Venture Kick, winning the third stage of the program.
Current neurosurgical procedures face significant hurdles due to limitations in precision imaging and real-time surgical guidance. These challenges not only affect surgical efficiency but also restrict patient outcomes and slow the integration of innovative neurotechnologies.
The Geneva Wyss Center spin-off Clee Medical addresses these critical issues by developing innovative imaging and sensing technology and AI-driven navigation technology that delivers ultra-high-resolution, real-time visualization of the brain during surgery, without the need for contrast agents or radiation. Offering 300,000 more voxels per unit volume than MRI, this technology integrates with existing neurosurgical equipment and can be easily incorporated into current surgical routines.
Targeting a global market valued at CHF 2.2 billion, Clee Medical is poised to redefine stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. With prestigious medical centers as key clients, the company’s technology promises unprecedented accuracy, reduced surgical risk, increased operating capacity, and broader treatment possibilities. The Venture Kick funding will enable Clee Medical to strengthen collaborations with leading neurosurgeons and institutions, expedite early adopter engagement, and swiftly advance toward a first-in-human clinical trial milestone.
Clee Medical was co-founded by Matt Lapinski, an accomplished entrepreneur with over a decade of success in Boston’s dynamic medical device industry, and Dr. Abed Hammoud, a veteran innovator with 30+ years of leadership experience in stereotactic neurosurgery and technology ventures.
“The Venture Kick process has represented a substantial part of our journey, providing funding, strategic guidance, and access to an incredible network of entrepreneurs and experts,” commented Matthew Lapinski, CEO and Co-Founder of Clee Medical. “We are truly grateful for the opportunity and support that have helped us refine our vision and accelerate our impact. We are excited to continue and apply our learnings from the Venture Kick process to improve minimally invasive brain surgery worldwide!”
