The Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024, marking four decades of innovation in key areas such as microtechnology, digitalisation, sustainability and life sciences.
Founded in 1984 in Neuchâtel, the CSEM has become a benchmark in Switzerland and internationally for its expertise in cutting-edge technologies, including renewable energy, the miniaturisation of medical devices, and the automation of industrial processes.
A very special CSEM Business Day
The CSEM celebrated this anniversary at the CSEM Business Day on 14 November in Berne. Participants discovered more than 80 innovations in fields such as robotics, water management and biodiversity, as well as solar and advanced healthcare technologies. Industry figures such as Sylvain Dolla, CEO of Tissot, and Nicola Thibaudeau, CEO of MPS Micro Precision Systems, shared their experiences of collaboration with CSEM and the impact of their joint projects.
Gilles Weder from CSEM and Remi Villenave from Roche gave an inspiring talk on their partnership. They are developing a groundbreaking perfusion continuous system for microfluidic well plates, designed to enhance cancer immunotherapy drug screening. A fever monitoring system was also presented, in partnership with the paediatric department of InseSpital.
CSEM: a key partner for projects
The CSEM (Centre Suisse d’Électronique et de Microtechnique) has collaborated with various companies and start-ups in the healthcare sector to develop innovative solutions, particularly in biotechnology, medical technology and digital health. Here are a few significant examples:
- MachineMD, to develop virtual reality glasses used in standardised neuro-ophthalmological examinations. This technology helps to diagnose and monitor neurological disorders.
- CUTISS, a regenerative medicine company, created with CSEM a machine for the automated production of grafts.
- Aktiia® launched the 1st connected bracelet for continuous hypertension monitoring in Switzerland, Austria, France, Germany and Ireland.
CSEM Digital Journey Awards
The day was rounded off with the presentation of the Digital Journey Awards.
The prize for the best pitch went to TALK.SWISS, an app that uses artificial intelligence to analyse your message, voice and emotions, then offers you a tailor-made programme to help you progress quickly and enjoyably.
First prize went to Contexta. The Plan-les-Ouates-based company offers an innovative solution for simultaneous volumetric dosing. It won the equivalent of CHF 100,000 worth of technological development with the CSEM.
