At their 19th Innovation Day, the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) highlighted 16 innovative projects from the hospital and academic sectors, grouped into three categories: Proof of Concept, Prototype, and Launch-Ready Product.
Top 3 Awarded Projects:
- 🥇 Flow Twin: A 3D modeling platform of brain vessels for training, planning personalized endovascular procedures, and testing new therapeutic strategies.
- 🥈 Ultra-low-dose pediatric chest scanner: Uses photon-counting technology to drastically reduce radiation exposure (25–50 times lower than Swiss standards) while maintaining full diagnostic quality for children with cystic fibrosis.
- 🥉 SOVD: A test that objectively measures self-awareness by assessing the ability to recognize one’s own voice, combining EEG and physiological data.
Special Mentions:
- Jury’s Special Mention: POSICS – A wireless gamma camera with augmented reality for cancer surgery, allowing real-time visualization of radiolabeled tumors with millimetric precision.
- “Pépite” Prize (Proof of Concept): VIDÉPÉ – An open-source web platform that integrates all pre-surgical epilepsy data (EEG, MRI, PET) into one interactive interface to improve diagnosis and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Projects were selected by a jury of 9 experts, 4 patient partners, and the audience (approx. 250 participants), based on innovation, scientific quality, clinical benefit, and development potential.
These prizes, funded by HUG’s private foundation and innovation partners, aim to support further development and real-world implementation of these healthcare innovations.
