DigeHealth is an EPFL Spinoff detecting post-operative complications using a device to analyse intestinal sounds and just received a CHF 100,000 Tech Seed loan from FIT, Fondation pour l’Innovation Technologique.
In the post-operative period, a significant proportion of patients experience intestinal complications, such as post-operative ileus or intestinal obstruction. If not detected in time, these complications can lead to further surgery, perforation, or even death. Each year, millions of operations are carried out under such conditions, often resulting in prolonged hospital stays and increased healthcare costs.
How can we ensure these post-operative complications are detected early enough, within the critical 72-hour window typically monitored by nurses, to prevent escalation and protect patient health?
This is precisely what the solution developed by DigeHealth enables. In the form of a belt and a connected box, this AI-powered device continuously captures and analyses intestinal sounds, offering 24/7 monitoring and therapeutic follow-up through an intuitive application. By allowing earlier identification of complications, the system facilitates timely intervention. In a context of nursing shortages, it also enhances resource allocation by enabling more patients to be monitored efficiently by each nurse.
Beyond post-operative care, this solution also supports the monitoring of chronic gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn’s, IBD, and IBS. By capturing continuous and objective data, it allows real-time treatment adjustments, improving patient outcomes and reducing avoidable hospital admissions.
The CHF 100,000 Tech Seed loan granted by FIT will support DigeHealth in further enhancing its device and data labelling process, increasing the accuracy of bowel sound detection for even more effective and reliable monitoring.
