Out of 780 applications from 95 countries, Planetary, a Geneva-Based startup specializing in sustainable food innovation, has been named the only Swiss finalist — and winner — of the 2025 WIPO Global Awards.
This prestigious recognition by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) honors small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) leveraging intellectual property to tackle global challenges.
Based in Geneva – Switzerland, Planetry is revolutionizing the future of food through its precision fermentation platform. The company produces high-quality, animal-free mycoprotein—a nutrient-rich protein derived from sugar fermentation—as a scalable and climate-resilient alternative to conventional protein sources. Their modular, biomanufacturing technology enables the efficient production of proteins, lipids, and enzymes to support a more sustainable, circular food economy.
What sets Planetary apart is its strategic use of proprietary bioprocessing know-how and robust IP protection, underscoring the central role of innovation and intellectual property in building sustainable food systems.
The WIPO Global Awards, held on 11 July in Geneva, recognize companies across sectors including health, climate, agrifood, and ICT, whose innovations generate positive societal and economic impact. Planetry now joins an exclusive group of global changemakers from countries including Iceland, India, Chile, and Singapore.
As part of the award, Planetry will receive:
- Tailored mentoring to scale its IP and commercialization strategy
- Global visibility and networking opportunities
- Access to WIPO’s international support ecosystem
This recognition highlights Switzerland’s leadership in sustainable innovation and affirms Planetry’s role in shaping the future of food — one fermentation at a time.
Congratulations to the Planetary team for putting Swiss biotech innovation on the global stage!
