The EPFL spin-off announces a new Innosuisse grant of approximately CHF 400,000, awarded with strong support from EPFL and CSEM.

Protonica is on a mission to transform cancer care by making proton therapy more precise, effective, and accessible. Unlike conventional radiotherapy, proton therapy can target tumors with high accuracy, limiting damage to healthy tissue and reducing short- and long-term side effects. Protonica develops breakthrough imaging and detection systems that optimize dose delivery and enhance beam precision, helping improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients.

This new Innosuisse funding will accelerate the development of Protonica’s particle detector technology and bring its next-generation imaging system closer to clinical use. The goal is ambitious but clear: to help democratize medical particle accelerators and make advanced cancer treatment accessible to more healthcare centers worldwide.

With this new grant, Protonica has now exceeded CHF 1 million in public funding, a major vote of confidence for the startup’s innovation and potential impact in particle therapy.

The next steps are already in motion: beam tests scheduled for December, followed by a seed funding round early next year — another key step toward scaling their solution and shaping the future of precision oncology.
